The 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race
The Race features nine Legs with Stopovers in Cape Town (South Africa), Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), Sanya (China), Auckland (New Zealand), Itajai (Brazil), Miami (USA), Lisbon (Portugal) and Lorient (France) with the finish in Galway (Ireland) in July 2012.

Info on Round the Bays

Date:Sunday,18^th March 2012
Start Time: 9:30 A.M.
Starting Place:Quay St, between Tinley St and the Strand Overbridge (no public access via the Overbridge)
Finish Place:Vellenoweth Green, St Heliers Bay

Ports of Auckland Round the Bays has been an annual event in Auckland since 1972, when the Auckland Joggers Club initiated it. The first run attracted 1200 participants and has now grown to be one of the world's largest fun-runs with nearly 40,000 registered runners and an estimated 70,000 participants.
The run is 8.4km long over a flat course that follows the contours of Auckland's Waitemata harbour. It is started in the city on Quay St and finishes on the waterfront at St Heliers Bay.
Every registered participant of Ports of Auckland Round the Bays receives a runner number to wear on the day and a personalised certificate recording the time they completed.

Auckland, New Zealand – Groupama sailing team survived a late scare to secure a dramatic victory on Leg 4 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 on Saturday, crossing the finish line shortly before midnight in Auckland to end Team Telefónica’s winning streak and give New Zealander Brad Marsh a homecoming of a lifetime.

“I’m feeling very excited. It’s a great day for Groupama 4 and it’s great to arrive here first into Auckland,” said Groupama skipper Franck Cammas after the crew had been greeted by two Waka Hourua – traditional double-hulled Polynesian sailing canoes – as they entered Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour.
